Blue, Pairs, and Pairs in Blue

A psychology of colors post (here) suggests that the color blue can be soothing to some people and feel cold and distant to others, depending on perspective. I have always had a positive reaction to any shade of blue. From light to dark, I am hard-pressed to name any other color that envelopes me with such peacefulness as this one does.

My relationship with the color blue dates back to my childhood, and my love of the ocean. It is the color I am most frequently drawn to in nature and therefore, the one I photograph most often.

I also enjoy wearing blue as it makes me feel comfortable and at ease. Apparently, I am not the only person who thinks that way, since it is the #1 color choice of the families and couples I have photographed throughout the years. White is a close second choice, followed by sand or beige. All of those choices are influenced by my favorite photo spot – the beach.

Entirely Random Facts – that may or may not be true

If you want to lose weight, eat your food from a blue dish. Apparently, the color makes the food appear unappetizing.

If you want to appear confident and in control, wear navy blue.

People who love blue are typically loyal and honest.

People who love blue can be seen as aloof or conceited.

Shared With: Second Wind Leisure Perspective – Sunday Stills, hosted by Terri selected the color Blue for the month of July and this week her theme is ‘Double Trouble – things in two’. She invites us to share our blues at any time during the month and our Twos can be shared any time this week. 1. Hi Suzanne! What a lovely post of blues and pairs! You are so clever to combine the two themes! I didn’t know that eating off a blue plate can be a deterrent! Your family pics are enchanting! All those vacation images are gorgeous.

      2. I am. Blue is one of the colors that I see well. So, I can see various shades of blue. Green, Red Purple, etc. I see shades, but not as many as most people see, and the colors wash into each other. Maybe that’s why I like blue 🙂

  1. If someone were to ask me my favorite color, I would probably say yellow as I think of it as a sunny and happy color. But…if you look at my wardrobe, I have lots of blue. In our historic home in New Hampshire, our kitchen and guest bedroom featured blue. 😊

    1. Hi Karen, yellow is a good color, just not on me. I do enjoy it in nature though. Even though I love blue, I haven’t decorated with it in years. Our first home, when we were newlyweds had a touch of blue and at Christmas, I decorated our tree with blue and silver ornaments. Funny how our tastes evolve.

  2. Blue is one of my favorite colors (green being the other. Put them together and you get turquoise, a very favorite). When I paint I often find myself with a lot of blue showing up in my work. Blue is kind of push that way, you know? LOVE your photos…

  3. Beautiful blues and interesting pairs 🙂 I find as I get older I’m wearing blue more and more. I used to have almost none in my wardrobe and now it’s one of the colours that dominates. I don’t know what that says about me and/or about the process of aging!

    1. Sarah, I think you are onto something here. As we age, narrowing our choices for just about everything is natural, and since blue is a soothing color, it makes sense that it would become the dominant color in your wardrobe. It is both convenient and comforting!

  4. I had a friend who was an excellent artist and only wore clothes in all shades of blue. She was an enigma but when I think of blue, I always think of her. You look great in blue!

  5. And yet “feeling blue” has a different connotation entirely. He’s got the blues. I ain’t never felt so blue….and other song lyrics. Maybe every colour has multiple interpretations, maybe we feel differently about a colour at different times. Me? You’d never catch me wearing anything red, but that’s entirely to do with football partisanship…!

  6. Stunning photos, Suzanne. I enjoyed reading your random facts. I like blue a lot, especially blue sky and blue water. I noticed and love your new domain name “As life evolves”.

  7. Suzanne,
I overlooked the new domain name but had problems connecting to your website from my bookmarks. Finally reached you through your email. Glad to know you’re still out there. I love your post and thought the combo was very clever. Also, I loved the picture of you and Malcolm in the field of Lavender (in a blue dress).

    1. Hi Joe, I wondered how the new domain name would affect subscriptions. My old one expired and I needed to do something. Instead of renewing with GoDaddy, I just switched to WP, which I have been thinking of doing for a while. Eventually, I will change the name to match. I’m glad you persisted with your search. I hope all is well and you guys are having a good summer. That lavender field was pretty awesome.
